Lemon balm (Melissa officinalis) leaves contain up to 0,33% essential oil, mainly composed of citral, citronellal, geraniol, linalool. In Lemon balm leaves there are up to 7 mg% of carotin, up to 150 mg% of ascorbic acid, and also resins, bitters, mucus, tannins and other substances.

Thanks to its essential oil Lemon balm has anti-spastic, analgesic and sedative effects.
